Salma Yaqoob ran as a candidate for the Respect party in the Birmingham Sparkbrook constituency in the General Election earlier this year. She is chair of Birmingham Stop the War Coalition. She is also a practicing clinical psychotherapist.

Asim Siddiqui

Asim Siddiqui, Chair, The City Circle, London

Asim Siddiqui is from London and is chairman and co-founder of the City Circle, which promotes British Islam and hosts regular talks and debates in London "at the cutting edge of Islam in Britain." The City Circle says it "remains non-aligned to any overseas or established doctrinal organisation." Asim's day job is as an accountant.

Mona Siddiqui is from Scotland and is head of the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Glasgow. She has studied Arabic and Sharia Law, and regularly advises media and government organisations about Islamic issues

Irfan Chishti is a traditional Imam and RE teacher in Greater Manchester. He studied at the Jamia Al-Karam school in Nottinghamshire and at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, the oldest Islamic University in the world.

Masud Ahmed Khan founded the Islamic website www.masud.co.uk in 1996. . The site uses the internet to promote a traditional understanding of Islam in a way that appeals to young Muslims in Britain -- and draw them away from theologically extreme versions of the faith.

Dilwar Hussain is in his 30s and is a Research Fellow at the Islamic Foundation, Leicester. He is co-author of the book, British Muslims between Assimilation and Segregation.

Hasan As-Sumaalee is from Cardiff and is a teacher from the Salafi movement, which is closely associated with Saudi Arabian religious scholars such as Bin Baz. He lectures around the UK and internationally.
