The killers
genocide scene in Rwanda
A genocide site in Rwanda
Panorama: The Killers was broadcast on BBC One on Sunday, 4 April 2004 at 2215 BST.

A signed version of the programme will be broadcast on Friday, April 9 on BBC One at 0120BST

This landmark film is the result of ten years work in Rwanda.

Reporter Fergal Keane returns to the scene of a massacre he encountered during the genocide of 1994.

Up to a million people were murdered in Rwanda in just one hundred days. The film marks the 10th anniversary of the genocide with a haunting investigation of how ordinary men became pitiless killers.

It contains some of the most harrowing descriptions of genocide ever given by killers themselves. One of them tells the Panorama team: "It is as if we were competing over the killing."

Production team:
Reporter: Fergal Keane
Producer: Darren Kemp
Assistant Producer: Lucy Willmore
Deputy Editors: Andrew Bell, Sam Collyns
Editor: Mike Robinson
