Is it all about oil? Is the UN a talking shop?
Panorama commissioned a poll to gauge the attitudes of the people of Jordan to a war with Iraq. The sample poll was conducted on around 1,000 people. The full results are featured below.


1, In your opinion, which of the following is the primary reason that the United States is preparing for a war against Iraq?

  • To secure oil supplies: 68%
  • To depose of Saddam Hussein: 16%
  • To eliminate weapons of mass destruction: 11%
  • To help prevent another Sept 11th attack: 4%
  • Don't know: 1%

2, If Saddam Hussein has to be removed from power under which of the following circumstances should this be achieved?

  • Only with a United Nations mandate: 20%
  • By a military coalition without UN support: 4%
  • Only by the people of Iraq: 76%

3, Do you think that the people of Iraq would be better off without Saddam Hussein as leader?
