Here are the full results of the NOP World poll commissioned by Panorama into attitudes towards the rights of unmarried couples. The representative survey involved 1,000 people.


Q1: Do you think it is acceptable for couples to choose to live together rather than get married?

  • Yes: 84%
  • No: 12%
  • Don't know: 3%

Q2: Do you think that couples who live together for two years or more should have the same legal rights as a married couple?

  • Yes: 66%
  • No: 31%
  • Don't know: 3%

Q3: Should co-habiting couples who have a child together have the same legal rights as married couples?

  • Yes: 90%
  • No: 8%
  • Don't know: 2%

Q4: There is a proposal to introduce a register for couples who have lived together for at least six months. Couples could sign the register which would give them greater legal rights than they have at the moment. Do you think this is a good idea?

  • Yes: 74%

Q5: There is also a proposal to introduce a register for same sex couples who have lived together for at least six months. Same sex couples could sign the register which would give them greater legal rights than they have at the moment. Do you think this is a good idea?
