Dr Ros Altmann
Ros Altmann is an investment banker, pensions expert and economist by profession.

She is also an adviser on pensions to the Government.

Her most recent piece of research, conducted jointly with YouGov, looked into attitudes and perceptions towards pensions.

The results of the joint survey were first published at a press conference in Whitehall on Monday, November 4. The conference was chaired by Dr Peter Kellner.

Vast experience

Other speakers included Derek Scott, a fellow adviser to Number 10 and James Purnell, a member of the Commons select committee for work and pensions.

Before going into the City, Ros was an academic, working and publishing on the topics of UK pension policy, occupational pension provision, poverty among the elderly and retirement.

She has vast experience in the field, having managed institutional investment portfolios for 15 years, including pension funds, insurance funds and unit trusts.

She has also been advised central banks and private client advisers on investment issues.

Government advisor

Ros now works as an independent consultant, specialising in investment banking and pensions-related issues.

She spent six months working as consultant to the Treasury and Paul Myners, on the Myners Review of Institutional Investment in 2001 and has since been assisting members of the Number 10 Policy Unit.

She is an independent Policy Adviser on Pensions, Annuities, Savings, Retirement and Social Security and is a Governor of the London School of Economics and the Pensions Policy Institute.

She speaks regularly on pensions-related issues, chairs conferences, publishes papers and participates in industry discussions.
