Panorama: Football on Trial
16 December 2001

As Leeds and England footballer Jonathan Woodgate is found guilty of affray after an attack on a student in Leeds; Panorama talks exclusively to the victim Sarfraz Najeib.

On 11 January 2000 Woodgate and friends Lee Bowyer, Paul Clifford and Neale Caveney were enjoying a night's clubbing and drinking.

But what was supposed to be a lad's night out ended in violence.

21-year-old student Sarfraz Najeib was bitten on the face and suffered a broken leg, nose and cheekbone during the attack.

Woodgate and Leeds team mate Lee Bowyer were both cleared of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Bowyer was also cleared of affray.

The Najeib family talk for the first time about how the attack has undermined their whole sense of being British.
