Call for dogs to be muzzled around children

The mother of John Paul Massey, who was killed by a pit bull terrier in 2009, is campaigning for all dogs to be muzzled around children.

Angela McGlynn said that it is "better to be safe than sorry".

According to figures from the NHS, 6,005 adults and children were admitted to hospitals over the year to March 2011, after being "bitten or struck by a dog"; the fifth successive year-on-year increase.
