Liberal Democrats 'committed to further cuts'

The Liberal Democrats will be fighting the next election promising further public spending cuts according to the Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander.

Speaking on BBC Newsnight Mr Alexander said that spending cuts would carry on to 2017 as set out by Chancellor George Osborne.

In his Autumn Statement to MPs on Tuesday, the chancellor said the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) was now forecasting that the UK economy would grow by 0.9% this year - compared with 1.7% forecast in March - and 0.7% next year, down from 2.5%.
