Killing of Libya's controversial commander Younes

At the height of the campaign against Col Gaddafi in late July, rebel commander in chief General Abdel Fattah Younes was murdered and mutilated, apparently by men on his own side - after being arrested on the orders of the rebel leadership.

With the murder still unsolved, there is mounting anger among members of Younes' large and powerful tribe, who say senior officials of the National Transitional Council which now runs the country, conspired with Islamic extremists to kill the general - a claim the NTC strongly denies.

Tim Whewell investigates a case that is threatening to destabilise the new Libya.

Broadcast on Wednesday 14 September 2011.
