Artists Gilbert and George have cast aside the idea of the artist as a traditional, anti-establishment, scruffy type, and prefer to reject liberalism, theatre, cinema and even food shopping.

The art duo's new show opens at London's White Cube gallery on Friday, and Newsnight's Stephen Smith has been to meet them at their Spitalfields home.
