How Norman Wisdom won over totalitarian regimes

Sir Norman Wisdom, who has died at the age of 95, was a comic superstar in Albania - his innocent form of slapstick being the only Western films permitted by Enver Hoxha's Stalinist regime.

In 1995, Newsnight reporter David Lomax examined the secret of his success in Albania and other totalitarian regimes, talking to film critic Barry Norman and Wisdom's On The Beat co-star David Lodge.

First broadcast in January 1995.
