Science funding crucial for UK future - Hawking

Following a government announcement of a planned squeeze on public funding for scientific research, Professor Stephen Hawking explains why investment in scientific and academic excellence is crucial to Britain's future.

He tells science editor Susan Watts it is essential to reverse what he sees as "the dumbing down of intellectual culture" in order to inspire more young people to study science at A-level and university.
