Should 'blue sky' science be funded in an age of austerity?

The 35th International Conference on High Energy Physics has been held in Paris where rival teams from US and Europe have been revealing their progress in finding the elusive Higgs-Boson - or "God particle".

Physicist Professor Brian Cox and former government chief scientific adviser Sir David King debate the need to continue funding "blue sky" science projects in an age of austerity.
