Conservative leader David Cameron gave his party the news on Wednesday that a referendum on the Lisbon treaty is dead. In its place, the promise of a future vote on any new treaty, a pledge to claw back power from the EU and a vow to give British courts the last word over Brussels.
David Grossman reports on whether Mr Cameron can deliver all of this and if the new set of measures will satisfy those Conservatives who thought they would get their say this time.
