Village People: Save election night

On election night there has always been a race to get the first results in. But now some returning officers say that due to new requirements for checking postal votes and the cost of keeping staff on overnight it would all be better left until the next day.

More than 170 MPs have signed a Commons motion calling for election night to be saved for the nation, as David Grossman explains in the latest in his series investigating life in and around Westminster.
