If you have ever wondered how news is made and what it is like to work at Newsnight, Jeremy Paxman gave me a guided tour for School Report.

From morning to night, I filmed behind the scenes capturing all aspects of the Newsnight day. As a newcomer to the programme it was very tiring but I learnt a lot about how Newsnight is made and the jobs involved.

The Newsnight day is much longer than your average day. It starts at 10am, with a 10.30am morning editorial meeting and finishes at 11.20pm once the programme has gone out live on BBC2.

Gallery

I met some of the Newsnight staff and got to see what they did all day.

There are a range of people in the office including Newsnight Editor Peter, Barton the director, and a graphics team who help design the illustrations that appear on screen.

As the Newsnight day unfolded, I spoke to reporters about the stories they were working on for the programme that night and why they were significant.

I even got to know what food the Newsnight team liked eating for dinner. I was surprised to see that they often ordered takeaway which isn't too healthy!

Just before the programme went live, I filmed the gallery where the technical running of the programme is controlled, and in the studio where the guests are interviewed.

You can watch the film using the link at the top of this page and get Jeremy Paxman's take on a Newsnight day.
