"The Beveridge Report" was the blueprint for the welfare state in Britain

The government is planning a major overhaul of the Welfare System - with some people claiming it will be the biggest change for those on benefits in 60 years.

Beveridge redesigned the contours of British welfare. The prize for implementing Beveridge was security 'from the cradle to the grave'.

But is this all hype? Do ministers really have the appetite for root-and-branch reform or is this just more tinkering around the edges?

On Wednesday night Newsnight is posing the question - is the Welfare System still fit for purpose?
