Tuesday's programme, presented by Gavin Esler, covers the following stories:

From Gavin Esler,

Hello

It is exactly a week since the awful events of the bombings in London and many of us are still trying to make sense of what they mean for our country, our capital city, our varied communities and for our daily lives. I happened to be in central London at noon today and I watched office workers file out from their desks a few minutes before the two minute silence. Never can there have been a more dignified response to an atrocity - Londoners of all races, colours, religions and political persuasions joined by other British people from Lands End to John O'Groats plus untold numbers abroad - speaking most eloquently by saying nothing whatsoever.

In Newsnight tonight we will reflect upon today's events and give the latest news on the attempts to piece together the anatomy of the bombings. Plus we'll look back on one of the most dreadful weeks any of us can remember. We have asked a leading voice within the Muslim community to make a short film explaining the way ahead from his perspective. We'll debate his views with two other prominent British Muslims.

And David Grossman is in Cheadle for the by-election.

That's Newsnight tonight at 10.30 pm on BBC2.
