DETAILS OF TONIGHT'S PROGRAMME
From programme producer Sam Whipple
Tony Blair's terrible month just got very much worse.
In the end the crucial vote on his terror bill was not close. MPs rejected his proposal for the police to be able to hold terror suspects without charge for 90 days by a whopping 322 to 291, wiping out the government's majority.
It's Tony Blair's first defeat on a parliamentary vote, and already rebel voices are clamouring for him to go soon.
The amazing result came despite a day of action. Gordon Brown and Jack Straw were recalled from abroad. Arms were twisted and ears bent.
But despite putting his authority on the line, Tony Blair still lost.
Tonight, we devote the whole programme to Mr Blair and his defeat.
David Grossman will be reporting on the drama of the day, and Martha will be reading the tea leaves of the Prime Minister's future.
Michael Crick will be assessing how much trouble he is now in, looking back at the shadows from history and at other governments who struggled with their majorities.
And we'll be talking to front bench representatives from the major parties, plus a panel of political experts, to assess if Tony Blair is losing his grip on government.
