Stephanie Flanders is Newsnight's Economics Editor.
She is a former speech writer and senior advisor at the US Treasury in Washington, where she was involved in the management of emerging market crises and other global economic issues from 1997 to 2001.
More recently, Flanders has worked in New York as a reporter for the New York Times, and as principal editor of the UN's 2002 Human Development Report.
Before heading off to America, she was a leader writer and economics columnist with the FT in London.
She went to Balliol College, Oxford and Harvard University, and collects jokes involving animals and/or inanimate objects going into bars.
Stephanie was named Broadcast Journalist of the Year at the 2005 Workworld Media Awards and was elected to the governing council of the Royal Economic Society in April 2007.
