It has been a volatile summer on the stock market and many of us are left feeling insecure about our finances.

So where does the stock market turmoil leave ordinary people and their money, particularly when it comes to mortgages and loans?

We talked with Geoffrey Dicks of the Royal Bank of Scotland, Ray Boulger from John Charcol and Michael Hughes of Baring Asset Management, about the effects the turbulence will have on our savings and credit.

How long will it be before claimants hear their results?

People who have only recently started to make claims for bank charge refunds now face what could be a long wait before hearing if they've succeeded.

During the summer a decision was made that puts all claims on hold until a court case is heard.

Other news

HSBC announced earlier this year that it was not going to offer interest free overdrafts to graduates coming out of university this summer.

However, the bank has now reversed its decision and will still allow new graduates free overdrafts on HSBC accounts for a time and will refund any interest charged on those accounts in August.
