MP Martyn Jones wants the money to be put to good use

BBC Radio 4's Money Box was broadcast on Saturday, 24 April, 2004, at 1204 BST.

The programme was repeated on Sunday, 25 April, 2004, at 2102 BST.

High Street banks have come under renewed pressure over dormant accounts, after several of them admitted they have been using the money to boost their profits.

Financial Times Journalist Eoin Callan revealed his findings in an article this week. He joined us to discuss the revelations.

We also invited Ian Mullen, Chief Executive of the British Bankers' Association to explain the situation.

And we spoke to MP Martyn Jones who has been campaigning on this issue for some time.
