Expense fraud peer Lord Hanningfield was 'suicidal'

Lord Hanningfield, who was jailed over his parliamentary expenses has said he felt suicidal after being charged.

He told HARDtalk's Gavin Esler he avoided travelling on the London Underground fearing he might throw himself in front of a train.

The former Essex council leader was convicted of falsely claiming nearly £14,000 and jailed for nine months in 2011, but later released on licence.
