Maldives elections can happen this year

Stephen Sackur talks to the current Maldives president, Waheed Hassan Manik, who says his goal is to unify the nation. He came to power just a few weeks ago in what the former president Mohamed Nasheed claimed was a de facto coup.

The Maldives - which promotes itself as an Indian Ocean tourist heaven - is currently experiencing street protests, sporadic violence and parliamentary chaos but the new president says he is not opposed to an early election.
