One of the developers of the first oral contraceptive pill, Carl Djerassi has said IVF and reproductive science has helped liberate couples from the high proportion of unwanted pregnancies.
Challenged by Stephen Sackur that science had led to the "divorce of sex and reproduction", he rejected the "romanticised" idea that natural conceptions were better, saying the most important issue was that the child was wanted.
