The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant for Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir, accusing him of war crimes during the conflict in Darfur.

There has also been a surge in violence over the past six months in the troubled region. HARDtalk's Sarah Montague spoke to Ibrahim Gambari, the United Nations and African Union representative to Darfur, and asked him whether the arrest warrant for President Bashir is inhibiting Darfur's road to peace.

The full interview was broadcast on BBC World News and on BBC News Channel on Thursday 30 June and Friday 1 July 2011.
