Acosta would 'probably have defected' to pursue ballet

Carlos Acosta, the Cuban ballet star, spoke to Stephen Sackur about how he has managed to maintain his ties with home and pursue an incredibly successful career abroad.

Ballet training in Cuba is funded by the government and taught in a rigid manner, similar to the Russian style. Acosta admits that he "is a product of the revolution", and believes he would not have had the same opportunities if he had grown up as a poor child in the UK.
