Boris Johnson

In a HARDtalk interview broadcast on 14 July 2009, Stephen Sackur talks to the Mayor of London.

Boris Johnson says the £250,000 he is paid for his newspaper column is 'chickenfeed'.

World's greatest city?

As Mayor, Boris Johnson has the biggest personal political mandate of any politician in Britain. He won the mayor's office for the Conservative party with 1.2 million votes.

When he was elected, he promised a new vision: to turn London into the world's greatest city.

Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, talks to Stephen Sackur about his vision for London. He blames the Government for Macdonalds' decision to move their European HQ to Geneva

Amnesty for illegal immigrants

In the past some of the words he has used in his newspaper column to describe black people have caused offence and got him into political hot water.

But Boris has confounded his critics and some in his own party, by proposing that illegal immigrants who have been in London for some time should be able to earn the right to stay.

Boris Johnson talks to Stephen about his ideas on a multiracial, multicultural London and his proposal that illegal immigrants should be able to earn the right to stay.
