Andy Hayman

Andy Hayman

In a HARDtalk interview broadcast on 29 June 2009, Stephen Sackur talks to Andy Hayman, former UK Counter Terrorism Co-ordinator.

When suicide bombers attacked London on July 7 2005 Andy Hayman was the police chief in charge of Britain's counter terrorism operations.

Now retired, he is free to speak out about the scale of the Al Qaeda threat, and the successes and failures of the counter terror response.

In his focus on maximising security did Andy Hayman lose sight of fundamental British liberties? He talks to Stephen Sackur.

Hardtalk is shown on the BBC World News at 0330 (except Middle East, South Asia and Asia Pacific), 0830, 1430, 2030 and 2230 GMT (except Middle East and South Asia)

HARDtalk is also broadcast on the BBC News channel at 0230, 0430 & 2330
