In a HARDtalk programme broadcast on 7th October, Stephen Sackur talks to the Brazilian film-maker, Walter Salles.

Brazilian film-maker Walter Salles broke onto the international scene with his award-winning road movie Central Station.

The story of a son's search for his father was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Film.

Salles went on to produce the huge international hit City of God which looked at the struggle to survive in the slums of Rio de Janeiro.

His most recent film Linha De Passe tells the story of four working-class brothers in the suburbs of Sao Paulo.

Stephen Sackur asks Walter Salles whether his films project a stereotype that ignores the reality of Brazil's economic success.

HARDtalk is broadcast on BBC World News at 03:30 GMT, 08:30 GMT, 14:30 GMT, 20:30 GMT and 22:30 GMT

HARDtalk can also be seen on BBC News at 04:30 BST & 23:30 BST
