UK prime minister Gordon Brown is trying to push through new anti-terror laws.

He's also seeking to ratify the EU Lisbon treaty without a referendum.

Tony Benn is a former cabinet minister and was a Labour MP for 51 years.

He's spent most of his career campaigning against what he sees as the encroachment of civil liberties.

Stephen Sackur asks him whether the British government really is endanagering fundamental freedoms.
