Gene Robinson

Bishop of New Hampshire
Gene Robinson
In a HARDtalk interview shown on 29th April 2008, Stephen Sackur talks to Gene Robinson, Bishop of New Hampshire

Five years ago, the American, Gene Robinson, became the first openly gay bishop inside the Anglican Church.

His election provoked a furore within the church and now the issue could come to a head at this year's Lambeth conference.

The once-a-decade meeting of the worldwide Anglican community will try to prevent a schism within the Church on the issue of homosexuality.

But is it too late to find a Christian compromise over gay people in the church?

HARDtalk is broadcast on BBC World News at 03:30 GMT, 08:30 GMT, 14:30 GMT, 20:30 GMT and 22:30 GMT.

Hardtalk can also be seen on BBC News at 04:30 & 23:30.
