In a Hardtalk programme first broadcast on Wednesday 10th October 2007, Stephen Sackur talks to Nigerian Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka.

As part of a season of programmes examining the question "Why democracy?" HARDtalk travelled to Nigeria to record a special programme in front of an invited audience.

The country recently had elections but they have been widely condemned as deeply flawed.

The Nigerian playwright and political activist Wole Soyinka talks to Stephen Sackur about democracy in his country.
