Greg Nickels: Seattle is committed to curbing its emissions

In a Hardtalk programme first broadcast on Tuesday 9th October 2007, Zeinab Badawi talks to the Mayor of Seattle, Greg Nickels.

America is the world's biggest polluter.

It is also accused of dragging its feet on climate change and wrecking international agreements to cut carbon emissions.

City mayors across the US are taking matters into their own hands.

Greg Nickels, the Mayor of Seattle, has vowed to meet or beat Kyoto goals.

He has now been joined by nearly 700 mayors across the US in his campaign to reduce greenhouse emissions.

He claims to be a step ahead in tackling global warming. But how committed are his fellow citizens to cutting back?
