Amjad Ali Khan plays specially for Hardtalk Extra
In Hardtalk Extra programme broadcast on Saturday 25th August, Razia Iqbal spoke to India's most high profile classical musician, Amjad Ali Khan.

Amjad Ali Khan is one of India's best known classical musicians.

He is the acknowledged master of the sarod, a fretless string instrument that is notoriously difficult to play.

Five generations of his family before him have also devoted their lives to it.

He talks to Razia Iqbal about the merits of learning his craft through the traditional guru system, and the outlook for classical music in twenty-first century India.

HARDtalk Extra can be seen on BBC World at 0330 GMT, 0830 GMT, 1430 GMT, and 1830 GMT.

It can also be seen on BBC News 24 at 04:30 and 23:30.
