In a HardTalk interview first broadcast on Thursday 16th August 2007, Stephen Sackur spoke to Syed Sharifuddin Pirzada, senior legal adviser to President Pervez Musharraf.

Syed Sharifuddin Pirzada began his career as private secretary to the founder of modern Pakistan, Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

In the intervening years he has held many senior legal and government posts.

Throughout his career he has advised a roll call of Pakistan's leaders, both democratic and military, including the current President, Pervez Musharraf.

He talks to Stephen Sackur about the mistakes of the past and his hopes for the future of Pakistan.
