Leslie Phillips tells how Hollywood beckoned in the 1950s
In a Hardtalk Extra programme broadcast on Friday 20th October, Gavin Esler talks to one of Britain's most distinguished comedy actors, Leslie Phillips.


Leslie Phillips is known around the world as an upper class Englishman with an eye for the ladies.

He gained this reputation by acting in some of England's most successful ever films, including the Carry On series of the fifties and sixties.

In fact he was brought up in one of the poorest parts of East London.

Now in his eighties, looks back on a remarkable career with Gavin Esler, including his brushes with Hollywood legends like Ginger Rogers, Gene Kelly and George Cukor.
