Richard E Grant admits that most actors don't make good writers
In a HardTalk Extra interview screened on Friday 2nd June, Gavin Esler spoke to English actor turned director Richard E Grant about his new autobiographical film, Wah Wah.

In his breakthrough film role, Richard E Grant played a struggling, alcoholic actor in the cult classic Withnail and I.

This resulted in a stint in Hollywood, which left him disillusioned, but armed with compelling material for his notorious film diaries.

Now he has written and directed Wah-Wah - an autobiographical film about his mother's adultery, his father's alcoholism, and his childhood in end of empire Swaziland.

In a candid interview, he tells Gavin Esler about the ordeals he went through committing his traumatic early life to film.

HARDtalk Extra can be seen on BBC World at 0330 GMT, 0830 GMT, 1530 GMT, 1830 GMT, 2330 GMT.

It can also be seen on BBC News 24 at 04:30 and 23:30.
