Roy Ayers took time out from the Jazz Cafe to talk to Hardtalk Extra
Jazz legend Roy Ayers has been making music professionally for over 40 years.
In the 1960s he was one of the most prominent jazz vibraphone players in America.
In the 70s and 80s he became one of the leading figures in r'n'b and jazz funk.
In the 90's he was regarded as one of the innovators of the acid jazz movement.
Still an active musician and producer, he talks to Patrick O'Connell about his thoughts on rap music and about how an invitation to Nigeria from Fela Kuti in 1979 changed his life.
