Is Taiwan on a collision course with China?

China has branded Taiwan's President Chen Shui-bian a "troublemaker and saboteur" for a speech hinting at formalising Taiwan's independence.

Taiwan's President Chen appears to be on a collision course with the Chinese Government.

He's pushing for political reforms opposed by Beijing and he wants to spend extra billions on Taiwan's defences. But does he have the support of his people?

Stephen Sackur talks to Ma Ying-Jeou, the Chairman of Taiwan's main opposition party, the Kuomintang, which are in favour of closer relations with Beijing.
