Africa '05 - Hailu Shawel
Stephen Sackur spoke to Hailu Shawel in Addis Ababa.

In a HARDtalk interview on July 5th, Stephen Sackur talks to the Chairman of Ethiopia's CUD party, Hailu Shawel.

Who won Ethiopia's parliamentary election in May? The opposition says the Government is trying to rob them of a victory.

There have been protests and bloodshed and the country is waiting for the results of an investigation into complaints of electoral irregularities before the official result is announced.

So just what will the opposition do next? Will their supporters defy a state of emergency and take to the streets in protest again?

Hailu Shawel is the leader of the Coalition for Unity and Democracy - the largest opposition group in the country. How does he see events unfolding in the coming weeks?

HARDtalk can be seen on BBC World at 03:30 GMT, 0830 GMT, 1530 GMT, 1830 GMT, 2330 GMT

It can also be seen on BBC News 24 at 04:30 and 23:30
