What does the Big Brother phenomenon say about our society?
In a Hardtalk Extra interview broadcast on Friday 27 May, Gavin Esler spoke to Peter Bazalgette, the television producer who brought the Big Brother reality television programme to Britain.

For good or bad, television is the greatest cultural force in the world today.

On TV screens around the world "reality TV" shows like Big Brother are hugely successful, yet routinely criticised as degrading and voyeuristic.

On the day that the 6th series of Big Brother begins in the UK, Gavin Esler talks to Peter Bazalgette, a hugely influential television producer.

He brought Big Brother to Britain and some people have still not forgiven him.

Millions of viewers however, would disagree.
