David LaChapelle - In Fashion

LaChapelle steps in front of the paparrazi with one of his muses, Pamela Anderson
In a HardTalk Extra interview screened on 30 December, Patrick O'Connell spoke to David LaChapelle, one of the world's most in-demand fashion photographers.

David LaChapelle has been called "The Fellini of fashion photography".

First hired by Andy Warhol, his work has captured the face of modern celebrity - the biggest stars of film and pop have fallen in love with his slick, surreal, and often raunchy style.

So why has his most recent venture taken him to the underprivileged suburbs of South Central Los Angeles?

He tells Patrick O?Connell how LA's poorest inhabitants changed the direction of his career.

HARDtalk Extra can be seen on BBC World at 0430 GMT, 0830 GMT, 1130 GMT, 1530 GMT, 1930 GMT, 0030 GMT.

It can also be seen on BBC News 24 at 04:30 and 23:30.
