Can the Palestinian Authority, led by Mahmoud Abbas, stand up to the militants?

In a HARDtalk interview 27 September, Stephen Sackur talks to Rafiq Husseini, the Chief of Staff to Mahmoud Abbas.

In the worst outbreak of violence since the completion of the pull-back from the Gaza Strip, Hamas launched rockets into Israel.

The Israeli's responded with air strikes against targets in Gaza. Hamas then declared a ceasefire, but Islamic Jihad has warned that Israel has "opened the gates of Hell".

Does the Palestinian Authority, led by Mahmoud Abbas, have the political and military strength to confront the Palestinian militants?
