HARDtalk Extra: Christopher Reeve
Christopher Reeve
Stem cell research has divided America, but it may help Christopher Reeve to walk again.

In a HARDtalk Extra interview on 21 May, Tom Brook speaks to the actor, Christopher Reeve, about his hopes for regaining his mobility after being made paralysed in an accident nine years ago .

Nine years ago Christopher Reeve was involved in a horse riding accident that left him paralysed from the neck down.

Most scientists agreed that he would never walk again.

Five years after the accident he regained some motor function that many scientists hailed as miraculous.

He's since become a campaigner for research into stem cell technology - an issue which divides America.

In the last couple of years he has picked his career as a movie director and producer.

Christopher Reeve remains convinced that he will get up out of his chair and walk again.

HARDtalk Extra can be seen on BBC World at 03:30 GMT, 08:30 GMT, 11:30 GMT, 15:30 GMT, 18:30 GMT and 23:30 GMT

It can also be seen on BBC News 24 at 04:30 and 23:30
