Israel has been roundly condemned after their assassination of the Hamas leader in Gaza, Abdel-Aziz al-Rantissi.
However they have defended their policy and said they would continue to target Hamas and senior members of Palestinian militant groups.
Israel is also under pressure after George Bush gave his full backing to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's middle east peace plans, infuriating the Arab world and parts of the international community.
