John Le Carre says America has entered a period of "historical madness".

In a HARDtalk interview Tim Sebastian talks to author, John Le Carre about post September 11th America.

The doyen of Cold War fiction, John Le Carre's latest book "Absolute Friends" is the story of two cold war double agents whose history comes back to haunt them post September 11th.

Le Carre considers that America "has entered one of its periods of historical madness" and says this is "the worst I can remember".

He tells Tim Sebastian why he is so against the war in Iraq and why he is so critical of British intelligence services for their part in informing our decision to go to war.
