Charlotte was brought up near Loch Lomond in Scotland and received an MA in Philosophy from Glasgow University.
After a year teaching in Sudan she began her career researching, developing and story-lining for television drama but always had a passion for world current affairs.
Charlotte first travelled to Mexico in 2001, fell in love with it and vowed to return to get to know it better. After a year working with BBC Correspondent she decided to freelance and bought a one-way ticket to Mexico City "to find a story".
Whilst researching crime issues, she was shocked by the number of people she met who had been a victim of kidnap, and whose kidnaps seemed to involve police participation.
She went to meet a kidnap negotiator, Pablo Carstens, who gave her unprecedented access to one of his negotiations.
Back home and sticking to the theme of crime, Charlotte has recently completed two episodes of the new BBC One series Manhunt which tells the stories of police investigations.
