Tracking an elephant is a difficult business, particularly when its eyesight is poor and a sense of smell is leading the elephant towards villages and villagers.

Spencer Kelly reports on the tracking technology making it possible to understand elephant behaviour and helping to prevent some of the devastating consequences which occur when living side by side with the herds in Kenya.
