With university students now packing up their satchels ready to start the new year, how would you like some free text books ease the financial strain? Bookboon is a free e-book publisher with more than 500 pdf volumes in their collection, for education, business and travel.

The art of songifying was made famous by YouTube sensation The Gregory Brothers, whose brand of humour turning the spoken word into music is quite controversial and definitely not suitable for children. They have now teamed up with a developer to make a free iPhone app called Songify, which allows you make child friendly versions yourself.

Onavo Lite is a free app for Android smartphones that helps you monitor and control app traffic, allowing you to set a cap and block heavy data consumption when not on wifi or travelling abroad.

If you prefer your data input through more traditional methods, Mind The Book is a literary discovery platform based around the questions answered by a book.
